A thought for July:

gemstone is the Ruby, and the flowers are the Larkspur and Water Lily. It is also the month the typewriter was invented (1829). American Independence Day is on the 4th of July. It is also the day of aphelion when the earth is the farthest from the sun. A distance of 94,609,598 miles. It is also the month novelists Emily Bronte and J. R. Rowling were born.

On the subject of novelists and books, there are a number of larger independent bookstores worldwide devoting a section of their store to providing tea or coffee and light snacks, making browsing much more enjoyable than it already is. Connecting food and drink with books is fast becoming popular worldwide. Here are just a few establishments around the world to help those of you who might be interested to get started on a journey of discovery:

England: London: Review Bookshop. Perfect for books, tea, and cake.

USA:  Portland: Powell’s City of Books and Guilder Café.

Thailand: Bangkok: Candide Books bookshop and café.

Australia: New South Wales: Sappho Books café and wine bar.

Greece: Palaio: Booktalks.

Singapore: Grassroots Book Room and cozy café.

The above are just a few of the many growing in numbers. If you look hard enough, you should find one near you. Should you be running out of authors or titles on your diminishing ‘to read’ list and you enjoy a good thriller, consider adding Sail Away by yours truly to your list. Happy reading.
